Cross Works (XW) is on the lookout for an experienced urban designer to join its growing team in London, working remotely until further notice.

We are a friendly, enthusiastic and highly motivated collective of individuals, looking to grow rapidly and sustainably to meet a healthy surge in new work. We aspire to bring together individuals who are creative, conscientious and collaborative, and whose desire is to thoroughly meet and very often exceed our client’s needs and expectations, whilst maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Why We Need You

We’re a cross-disciplinary team, working on a range of projects across sectors and regions globally.


We’re currently working on masterplans (predominantly residential-led mixed use) across the globe, and are in need of an ambitious and experienced urban designer who has the confidence to take on a leading role in our team in the design and execution of large scale schemes.

Prior experience on pre-concept, concept and detailed masterplanning schemes will be required for this role.

What You’ll Do

The successful new recruit will need to be able to help run large-scale masterplanning projects and have a deep understanding of the urban design process, and the principles of good urbanism. The following credentials will be required for shortlisting :

  • masters degree in architecture, urban design and / or landscape design

  • experience on pre-concept, concept and detailed masterplanning schemes

  • a strong understanding of how to respond to local regulations and standards (UK and abroad)

  • good understanding of different building typologies and how they apply to an urban design scheme

  • a thorough knowledge and understanding of the mathematics of urban design, and handling area schedules at the city scale

  • exceptional command of Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite is crucial; ability to use SketchUp or Rhino will be an added bonus

  • knowledge and competency in the use of GIS packages is a bonus; capabilities in CityEngine and/or Infraworks are an added bonus

  • excellent communication skills (particularly in listening and understanding client needs) will be required as well as an ability to coordinate effectively and collaboratively with other consultants

  • a strong command of the English language (particularly written) will be a bonus, although a native English speaker is not a must; international candidates are very much encouraged to apply
